Following a widely circulated video showing a violent downtown Cincinnati street fight, the Hamilton County Association of Chiefs of Police is raising concerns over what it describes as “gaps in the judicial process” that it says hinder public safety and officer effectiveness.
In a statement released Aug. 8, the association said law enforcement efforts are being undermined when violent offenders are arrested only to be quickly released due to what it characterizes as lenient bail policies and inconsistent sentencing, Cincinnati.com reports.
“It is not enough to arrest violent offenders if they are swiftly released back into our neighborhoods due to lax bail practices or insufficient sentencing,” the statement read.
