Location (Main Headquarters): Cincinnati, OH

Year started: 1985

Number of employees: 120

Number of facilities: The IORY operates on 570 track miles to serve almost 100 customers

Type of services offered: Freight rail transportation, transload solutions, industrial development, port rail operations, contracted industrial switching, a fleet of 109 covered hoppers offered to our customers for grain movements and rail-car maintenance and repair.

Company history:

In 2012, the IORY was acquired by Genesee & Wyoming along with 44 other railroads from RailAmerica

How has your company changed over the years? The IORY has recently upgraded its locomotive fleet to improve efficiency with local grain traffic and hired more crews to offer seven day/week service to a number of its customers. As the requirements for unit grain trains grow larger, we have the ability to be flexible and help local elevators meet that requirement.

How do you see your company growing in the future? We will continue to work with current and potential customers on their track infrastructures, rail-to-truck transload and providing guidance with industrial development.  On the agronomy side of things, we are working with our Class I partners to provide options for new satellite locations, or storage in transit options for customers that ship fertilizer into the area. In addition, IORY will continue testing and using technological solutions to bolster safety and customer service.

Interesting tidbits about your business:  Agricultural Products account for 22% of the IORY carload diversity, which is the largest commodity we move by rail.

How has OABA helped your business or the agribusiness industry? The OABA has given us a direct connection with the grain customers and local farmers along the Indiana & Ohio Railway.  It shows our level of dedication to the partnership we have with our customers to try and understand the industry and how we can best serve their needs.
