OABA Supports Agricultural Labeling Uniformity Act to Protect Science-Based Pesticide Regulation
The Ohio AgriBusiness Association, alongside more than 350 national and state-level agricultural organizations, has signed a letter urging Congress to pass the Agricultural Labeling Uniformity Act. The legislation aims to reaffirm the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) longstanding authority over pesticide labeling under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).
This bipartisan bill is in response to a growing trend of individual states imposing additional or conflicting pesticide label requirements—contradicting decades of EPA science-based guidance. If left unaddressed, this could create a patchwork of inconsistent regulations, restrict access to essential pest management tools, and ultimately impact conservation practices, public health efforts, and food production nationwide.
OABA and its partners emphasize that clear, uniform labeling standards are critical for growers, applicators, and consumers. By enacting this legislation, Congress can help ensure continued access to safe, effective pesticide products, uphold science-driven regulatory processes, and avoid disruptions to the food supply chain.
